Artist Roni Doron purchased a crystal pendant in the gift shop of the Natural History Museum in Vienna, Austria, as a potential gift, but was unable to give it away for fear that it would bring bad luck. The work deals with the conflict between the commercialization of natural treasures, the labor involved in carving such a beautiful object from the bowels of the rock, and the captivating simplicity and grace of the material itself, in this case crystal, in its raw form.
