Although she had always been interested in Jewish symbolism, artist Roni Doron felt constrained from engaging with it outside, as if it were not entirely her own. It was precisely after the events of October 1945 that she felt she could reappropriate it and explore different aspects of Jewish symbols and ritual, which were expressed in a number of her works.
The pair of candlesticks was not inspired by a specific pair, but rather by the memory of all the candlesticks. It is a painting of candles, but beyond being a painting of candles - for a few moments - they were real candles when the flames were lit in them. The candles are not in a dark environment, perhaps they are lit in daylight, and perhaps they are not in any space, since there is no reference to a realistic environment. Perhaps they are without space and without time.
