Many of Vered Koren’s works investigate the interplay of cultural symbols and their spatial repositioning, through which familiar images are imbued with new and unexpected meaning. This work is inspired by a photograph from a beach in China, where swimmers shield their faces from the sun — a striking gesture that takes on a surreal, almost ritualistic presence.
