Hilla Spitzer

Hilla Spitzer is a painter and drawing-based artist. Her practice centers on the slow convergence of fragments into an image, challenging the traditional notion of painting as a unified whole. Through an intuitive and investigative process, she constructs partial forms that hold meaning in their own right. Rather than striving toward a predefined result, Spitzer foregrounds the act of painting itself—an open-ended unfolding where the image gradually takes shape.

 

Spitzer graduated her BFA and MFA from the Fine Arts Department at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, as well as from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Her works are held in national and international collections. Among her awards are the ministry of culture's 2018 Young Artist award and the 2024 Plumas Award.
